Australian tests confirm same Rugby Championship format for 2016

The Australian Rugby Union have confirmed the Wallabies home match schedule for the 2016 Rugby Championship. The 2016 competition will return to having all three teams play each other twice with Australia’s home matches being on August 20, September 10 and September 17.

The order of matches is to replicate that of 2012-2014 with New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina playing away to the Wallabies in that order. The All Blacks will do so in Sydney while South Africa is to play in Brisbane. The two traditional strongest Australian markets will be joined by Perth with the Western Force’s home venue of nib Stadium allocated the fixture.

It is to be Argentina’s second Rugby Championship test in the city but the first at nib Stadium. The South Americans played at Paterson’s Stadium in 2013 in a match won 14-13 by the home side.

Also confirmed to date is that Argentina’s 2016 away test match against the All Blacks will be played at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, the same venue which hosted the corresponding fixture in 2013. Los Pumas also played against the All Blacks at the ground in a June international in 2004 and faced Fiji there in Rugby World Cup 1987.

Australian 2016 Home Rugby Championship Tests
Saturday August 29 Wallabies v New Zealand, ANZ Stadium Sydney
Saturday September 10 Wallabies v South Africa, Suncorp Stadium Brisbane
Saturday September 17 Wallabies v Argentina, nib Stadium Perth
